Herbal name: Chiliofylli yarrow (Achillea millefolium), a flowering plant belonging to the asteraceae family originating from Europe. This aromatic plant has gray-green feathered leaves and its flowers are in umbels which colors may vary from white to pink. The chiliofylli was used in ancient times during battles for the treatment of bleeding wounds and therefore was given the name “herb of the soldier”. Its herbal name was most likely given in regards to Achilles; when wounded by the poisoned spear of Paris, the goddess Aphrodite advised him to tie his wound with the plant for relief. According to botany; bitter substances containing yarrow have a positive effect on digest problems and in cases of anorexia.
