Seaweed Chlorella (green algae) is among the oldest plant organisms of the planet. Its high chlorophyll concentration (its chloroplasts contain the green photosynthetic pigments chlorophyll-a and chlorophyll-b) makes it a very nutritious food with potential antioxidant functions. Studies show that that the chlorophyll active molecules act as natural laxatives that may be able to remove redundant and harmful substances from the body. As a result they could benefit the kidney, liver and bowel functions as well as the blood circulation. In addition, they contribute to the removal of heavy metals from the body without affecting blood iron levels.
