Cysteine is an important source of dietary sulphur and many of its important roles in the body involve the thiol (sulphur) group attached to each molecule of the amino acid. Sulphur is essential in the diet and obtained principally from the intake of proteins rich in cysteine and methionine. The other sulphur containing amino acids, taurine and cystine are synthesised from cysteine.Cystine is an important component of keratin, a structural protein of hair, skin and nails. Cysteine’s most important role in the body is as a component of glutathione and it is cysteine’s thiol group that give glutathione it’s powerful properties as a detoxifyer and antioxidant. Lamberts® L-cysteine is a pure, free-form amino acid that is ready to be absorbed by the body without needing to be broken down by digestive enzymes.
1 to 3 capsules daily. It is preferable to take amino acids with fruit juice or water, rather than milk. An amino acid is best taken ½ hour before any meal or at bedtime.
